Description

phpBB Sego Media Embed is a lightweight media embedding extension for phpBB that automatically converts supported media links into embedded players directly inside forum posts.

No BBCode, iframe code or manual formatting is required. Users simply paste a supported media URL into a post, and Sego Media Embed recognizes the service and displays the appropriate player.

Sego Media Embed supports more than 40 popular video, audio and media providers and URL types, including services such as:

DIRECT MEDIA FILES

Sego Media Embed can also embed direct links to media files without using an external video platform.

Supported direct media includes:

• WAV audio
• other supported browser-compatible direct media formats

Direct media URLs are automatically displayed using the appropriate HTML5 video or audio player.

This allows media to be embedded from your own server, CDN or other directly accessible storage.

HOW IT WORKS

Using Sego Media Embed is simple.

Paste a supported media URL into a normal phpBB post.

The extension automatically:

• detects supported media URLs
• identifies the appropriate media provider
• recognizes different supported URL formats
• extracts required media information when necessary
• creates the appropriate embedded player
• handles direct video and audio files
• preserves unsupported or unavailable URLs as normal clickable links

Forum users do not need to learn special BBCode, HTML or embed syntax.

PERFORMANCE

Some media services require additional information to be retrieved from the provider before a player can be created.

Sego Media Embed caches external metadata requests where required.

This prevents the same external information from being downloaded repeatedly when forum topics are opened and significantly reduces delays caused by slower third-party media servers.

Providers that do not require external metadata retrieval are embedded directly.

RESPONSIVE PLAYERS

Embedded media players adapt to the available page width and work with desktop and mobile forum layouts.

This applies both to supported external media services and direct media files.

Sego Media Embed is installed as a standard phpBB extension.

INSTALLATION

1. Upload the extension to:

ext/sego/mediaembed/

2. Open the phpBB Administration Control Panel.

3. Go to Customise → Manage extensions.

4. Enable Sego Media Embed.

5. Open Media Embed → License.

6. Enter your license key.

7. Click Activate.

After successful activation, media embedding becomes available for the licensed forum domain.

LICENSE MANAGEMENT

Sego Media Embed includes an integrated license management interface in the phpBB Administration Control Panel.

The administrator can see:

• license key
• licensed product
• current forum domain
• license status
• current number of activations
• activation limit

The license can be activated, checked and deactivated directly from the phpBB Administration Control Panel.

One license is valid for one forum installation/domain.

If the forum is moved to another domain, the existing activation can be deactivated and the license can then be activated for the new domain.

After successful activation, Sego Media Embed does not require a permanent connection to the licensing server for normal forum operation.

SAFE BEHAVIOUR

Sego Media Embed is designed not to interfere with normal forum content.

If a URL is unsupported or cannot be converted into an embedded player, the original URL remains available as a normal link instead of breaking the post.

The extension does not modify phpBB core files.
