Description

phpBB Sego AI is an extended phpBB Sego distribution combining the capabilities of phpBB Sego BASE, phpBB Sego Editor and integrated artificial intelligence tools.

The features of BASE and Editor are not listed again on this page. Detailed descriptions are available on the corresponding distribution pages.

AI functionality is integrated into the standard phpBB structure and provides additional tools for communication, information retrieval and user assistance.

How phpBB Sego AI works

Artificial intelligence in phpBB Sego AI does not replace the forum or turn it into a separate AI chat application.

AI bots act as forum participants and interact with users through the normal discussion mechanisms. They can participate in topics, answer questions and perform different tasks depending on how they are configured by the administrator.

AI Help is also included as a specialized assistant for finding information within the forum and helping users navigate its content and features.

AI Reply

AI Reply allows AI bots to participate directly in forum discussions.

An administrator can create and use multiple AI bots, assigning each bot its own role, instructions and tasks.

For example, one bot can simply be a conversational companion, another can act as an expert on cars, programming, music or another subject relevant to the forum, while a third can serve as a specialized consultant for a particular section.

It is also possible to create a general-purpose expert with access to current information from the internet, or to use several experts with different areas of specialization at the same time.

Each bot receives its own instructions defining who it is, what tasks it should perform, which questions it should answer and how it should interact with users.

The capabilities of an individual AI bot largely depend on the task assigned to it by the administrator.

Multiple AI bots

AI bots can be assigned to specific forums and used simultaneously.

A forum can have a primary bot that responds to ordinary requests. If a user explicitly addresses a particular AI bot using @name, the selected bot responds instead.

This makes it possible to have several virtual participants and experts with different roles and areas of specialization working within the same forum.

AI Help

AI Help is a specialized assistant designed primarily to answer questions about the forum itself: how to use its features and where to find specific information.

AI Help uses its own forum-content search algorithm and can search through topics, individual posts and content associated with specific users.

Interaction takes place as a contextual dialogue. After the initial question, the user can refine the request, ask follow-up questions, request a more detailed explanation or ask for links to the relevant forum content.

This approach is particularly useful for large communities where many years of topics and posts have accumulated and finding specific information with a conventional search can become difficult.

AI models

phpBB Sego AI is not tied to a single AI model.

Administrators can configure different available models — both paid and free — and use them according to the requirements of the forum.

Different models can be assigned to different AI bots. For example, a less resource-intensive model can be used for a simple conversational bot, while a more capable model can be assigned to a specialized expert.

This allows administrators to choose an appropriate balance between capabilities, response quality and the cost of using AI services.

What is not included in AI

The gallery and its related specialized components are not included in the current phpBB Sego AI distribution.

AI functionality does not replace the standard phpBB mechanisms. Administrators can continue to install compatible extensions, change forum settings and use the standard features of phpBB.

Installation

phpBB Sego AI follows the same general installation principle as the other phpBB Sego distributions.

The distribution is installed on a clean server and an empty database using the standard phpBB /install procedure. Importing a prepared database or manually executing SQL commands is not required.

After installation, the administrator can configure the AI models, create the required bots, define their roles and assign them to the appropriate forum sections.

Who is phpBB Sego AI for?

phpBB Sego AI is intended for forums where artificial intelligence should serve as an additional tool for the community rather than a replacement for traditional communication between users.

It can be used to create virtual experts and conversational bots, assist users, search large amounts of accumulated forum content and perform other tasks defined by the administration of a particular forum.

Planned: phpBB Sego AI 2 and AI Moderator

A separate phpBB Sego AI 2 distribution is planned for the future. One of its main components is intended to be AI Moderator — a specialized bot for analyzing new forum posts.

Unlike conventional anti-spam systems, AI Moderator is planned to analyze not only individual prohibited words or links, but also the meaning of a message in the context of the forum, the specific section and the topic being discussed.

Planned AI Moderator tasks include detecting:

• obvious spam, including mass or repetitive messages, advertising posts and other typical unwanted content;
• messages that do not correspond to the general subject of the forum;
• posts that do not belong in a particular forum section;
• messages unrelated to the current discussion, taking the context of previous posts into account;
• content explicitly prohibited by the rules of a particular forum, based on requirements defined by its administration.

AI Moderator is not intended to have the ability to permanently delete posts on its own. Final decisions and the ability to restore content should remain under the control of the forum administration.

Several types of reactions are planned depending on the detected content and the administrator’s settings.

For example, AI Moderator may notify the administration about suspicious content for subsequent review or temporarily hide a post that is highly likely to be spam, unrelated to the section or in violation of established forum rules.

The purpose of AI Moderator is not to replace human moderation, but to perform continuous initial analysis of new posts, reduce routine moderator workload and draw attention to content that genuinely requires review.

phpBB Sego AI 2 and AI Moderator are planned features and are not included in the current phpBB Sego AI distribution.
