Description

phpBB Sego Photo is a phpBB Sego distribution designed for communities where photographs and photo albums are an important part of the forum.

Photo is based on phpBB Sego BASE and adds an integrated photo gallery together with a set of Sego extensions for working with photographs, albums and publishing images on the forum.

Photo Gallery

The gallery features a completely redesigned appearance adapted to the classic phpBB Sego interface.

The main gallery page uses a compact photo grid without unnecessary gaps or uneven alignment. Viewing follows a familiar structure: album → photo page → full-size image in a lightbox.

Dedicated navigation is available for new and random photos, user images, albums and the user’s own albums.

Albums

Users can create and manage their own photo albums directly within the forum.

The personal albums page has been redesigned and creating a new album has been simplified. Administrators can also select an album to open by default and create a separate link to a special or thematic album — for example, a virtual community photo exhibition.

Photos and the Forum

One of the main features of phpBB Sego Photo is the close integration between the gallery and regular forum discussions.

Ready-to-use BBCode links are available for publishing gallery images in forum posts, together with links for use on external websites. Quick-copy buttons are provided alongside them.

An entire album can be transferred to a selected forum topic. Each photograph is published as a separate post while preserving its title, description and a link back to the corresponding photo page in the gallery.

Protection is included to prevent the same photographs from being transferred repeatedly.

External Photos and Import

phpBB Sego Photo supports not only images uploaded directly to the gallery, but also externally hosted photographs.

External images participate in the common New and Random photo sections and have their own viewing pages, comment support and standard gallery navigation.

Importing older photo albums from an archive is also supported, allowing previously accumulated photo collections to be transferred into the new gallery.

Comments and Discussions

Photographs can be discussed directly within the gallery rather than simply viewed.

Comment support, together with the ability to transfer albums into regular phpBB topics, connects the photo gallery with the main forum activity instead of turning it into a separate isolated system.

Architecture

During the development of phpBB Sego Photo, the original Gallery system itself was left largely unchanged.

The main interface changes, forum integration, support for external photographs, album transfer functionality and other additional features are implemented through separate extensions.

These components can be disabled independently while preserving the basic gallery structure and the standard phpBB extension architecture.

Design

phpBB Sego Photo uses the classic phpBB Sego design, for which the gallery interface has been specifically adapted. The Sego Modern theme included with Editor is not part of this distribution.

This keeps the forum and photo gallery visually consistent without requiring separate versions of the specialized Gallery pages for different themes.

Installation

phpBB Sego Photo follows the same general installation principle as the other phpBB Sego distributions.

The distribution is installed on a clean server and an empty database using the standard phpBB /install procedure. Importing a prepared database or manually executing SQL commands is not required.

phpBB Sego Photo is intended for photography clubs, thematic communities and other forums where users regularly publish photographs, create albums and discuss images.

The main idea behind Photo is to combine a traditional forum and a full-featured photo gallery within a single community while preserving the familiar structure and functionality of phpBB.
