Description

phpBB Sego BASE is the base phpBB Sego distribution, built on phpBB 3.3.17 and designed to provide a modern forum without requiring administrators to manually assemble a basic set of extensions, modify templates, or reproduce the initial interface configuration.

BASE preserves the familiar phpBB architecture and standard installation process. The distribution can be installed on a clean server and an empty database using the standard phpBB /install procedure.

After installation, you get a ready-to-use base system with the phpBB Sego interface, sidebar functionality, improved user profile and attachment presentation, additional navigation, and a set of preconfigured features.

BASE is not a separate forum engine and does not replace the underlying phpBB architecture. It is a prepared and configured phpBB distribution that can be further extended using standard phpBB styles and extensions.

What is included in BASE

phpBB Sego Style and Interface

The distribution includes a redesigned forum interface based on the Rock’n Roll style.

The main interface elements, navigation, forum and topic pages, user information blocks, and service elements have been adapted and refined for phpBB Sego.

The standard prosilver style remains included without modifications and can be used as a fallback standard phpBB style.

Main Menu

BASE includes an additional top-level menu for the forum’s primary navigation.

It allows important sections and pages to be placed in a clear dedicated navigation area without overloading the standard phpBB menu.

The Main Menu is integrated into the phpBB Sego interface and forms part of its base layout.

Pre-installed Extensions

BASE contains a small set of extensions required for the basic Sego interface and layout.

Third-party extensions are not presented as original phpBB Sego developments. Where an extension was originally created by another developer and subsequently modified for Sego, it is identified as adapted or modified.

Sidebar Manager

A third-party extension for creating and managing the forum sidebar.

phpBB Sego uses a modified and adapted version of Sidebar Manager, integrated with the Sego interface and layout system.

It provides the foundation for displaying informational and navigation blocks in the forum sidebar.

phpBB Sego Sidebar Layout

A phpBB Sego extension for controlling the position and behavior of the sidebar.

It works together with Sidebar Manager and provides the layout rules used by Sego, including right-side placement and control over where the sidebar is displayed.

On pages where an additional column would interfere with the main content, the sidebar can be automatically hidden.

Sego User Card

A phpBB Sego extension for improving and standardizing the presentation of user information in posts.

It provides a more structured user card and integrates its presentation with the Sego interface.

Profile Side Switcher

A third-party extension adapted for phpBB Sego.

It allows the position of user information relative to posts to be changed and has been adapted to work with the structure and appearance of the Sego interface.

Topic Title in Breadcrumbs

A third-party extension adapted for phpBB Sego.

It adds the title of the current topic to the breadcrumb navigation, making the forum hierarchy and the user’s current location easier to understand.

Post Attachment Spacing

A phpBB Sego extension that improves the presentation of attachments inside posts.

It prevents attachments from appearing too close to surrounding text and provides cleaner spacing between post content and attached files.

Languages

The interface language is selected during the standard phpBB installation process.

BASE supports installation in Russian while retaining phpBB’s standard localization system.

After installation, the founder account language is synchronized with the language selected during installation.

Image Processing

BASE is prepared to use ImageMagick through phpBB, including image processing and thumbnail generation when ImageMagick is available on the server.

What is intentionally not included in BASE

BASE is designed to remain a base distribution rather than becoming an “everything included” package.

Specialized components available or planned for other phpBB Sego distributions are therefore not included.

In particular, BASE does not include the enhanced SCEditor visual editor.

The Gallery and its related components are also not included.

AI functionality and other specialized features are not part of BASE.

This keeps the base distribution relatively lightweight and makes it suitable as a foundation that administrators can extend according to their own requirements.

phpBB Compatibility

phpBB Sego BASE is based on phpBB 3.3.17.

The distribution retains phpBB’s standard extension system. Administrators can install additional compatible extensions in the usual way.

The standard prosilver style is retained, allowing administrators to return to the standard phpBB interface if required.

Installation

BASE is installed in essentially the same way as a standard phpBB installation:

1. Upload and extract the distribution on the server.
2. Create an empty database.
3. Open the /install directory in a web browser.
4. Follow the standard phpBB installation procedure.
5. Select the required language and configure the forum settings.

There is no need to import a prepared database or manually execute SQL commands.

The components and base configuration required by BASE are created as part of the standard installation process.

Who is BASE for?

BASE is intended for administrators who want a ready-to-use modern foundation for phpBB without installing a large collection of additional components.

It is also the most suitable version for administrators who prefer to decide for themselves which additional features their forum needs and extend the system gradually.
